TEDESCHI: AARON READY FOR EVOLUTION

Seagull Chaudron throttleman Angelo Tedeschi believes Aaron Ciantar is ready to make the move to the Evolution-class.

The Italian claimed his third World Championship title - his second with Ciantar - in Syracuse last month and the experienced pilot believes his #43 Seagull Chaudron team-mate has what it takes to compete in the closed-canopy class.

"Aaron is a real talent. I now genuinely believe he is ready to compete in Evolution. He needed this year of close competition and battles with our rivals to improve his driving when engaged with other boats.

Tedeschi, however, does believe he needs to improve his patience levels if he is to ultimately succeed at the top level.

"Aaron would like to pass everybody in one lap and take a few risks. I must calm him down! Races last for quite a while and there is plenty of time to gain first position."

Navigator Viktor Shemchuk debuted in the Powerboat P1 World Championship this season, and Tedeschi believes the Ukrainian is not far away from becoming the team throttleman. "He just needs a little more training. Viktor always gave us his trust and his support always gave us strength when we needed it most."

Whether Ciantar decides to continue his SuperSport career or move to the Evolution, it is indisputable that the 28-year-old has left an Indelible mark on the Powerboat P1 World Championship.

TEDESCHI DELIGHT AT TRIO OF TITLES

Angelo Tedeschi reflected on his hat-trick of World Championship titles and duly labelled the most recent triumph as the toughest of the lot.

The Seagull Chaudron team celebrate their title success in Sicily

"Believe me," recalls the Neapolitan throttleman of #43 Seagull Chaudron, "this 2009 season was very tough and very challenging. From the last race to the final one, any mistake could have ruined the whole season.

"How does it feel to win another title? Well, the first time I won it was one of great surprise as you ask yourself how you managed it. The second time, I was very proud because you have proved you are a really good driver. The third one I feel good about myself and very experienced as I had applied years of racing in order to win the championship."

After dominating the 2008 SuperSport series, Tedeschi and team-mates Aaron Ciantar and Viktor Shemchuk recognised the crew needed a modified race strategy if they were to take the title.

"Before the season started our tactics were to try and finish all of the races in podium positions. Our ultimate aim was to win the championship.

"In terms of our season highlights, it has to be our start in the final race in Syracuse. It was perfect and crucial. Any mistake would have cost us the championship - it was that close.

"If you panic when things are going badly then you perform badly and make it worse."

Referring to the team's indifferent start in Saturday's Sprint race in Sicily: "If you do have a bad start then you must regain control of the situation for one to two laps and then push again and gain some positions."

After finishing the season just 20 points ahead of #38 Baia Attolini, Tedeschi was quick to praise his compatriots. "The Baia crew can be very satisfied of their season. The team has been competitive and fast.

"Perhaps the team need to learn to be more diplomatic with the jury decisions that are made - for example, overspeeds - against them. You really can't be blaming other people for your mistakes."
