SW1 CAPITAL , Baia Attolini AND Seagull Chaudron TEAMS, celebrate AT THE Podium OF THE Scandinavian Grand Prix of the Sea

A drizzly Gothenburg failed to dampen the spirits of the all-British crew of Daniel Cramphorn and Kim Collins as they led the 77 nautical mile race from start to finish to claim 100 points and cap a perfect weekend. Punching the air with delight, jubilant throttleman Kim Collins said: It's been an amazing weekend. We have been waiting for this moment all season and this will be a great confident boost for us ahead of Sicily's season finale."

Title rivals #38 Baia Attolini and #43 Seagull Chaudron were involved in a monumental tussle for second place on the tight Stena Curve at the North East of the racecourse on the start lap. It was a battle ultimately won by PowerPole sitters Baia Attolini as they sensationally blocked the World Champions of Aaron Ciantar, Angelo Tedeschi and Viktor Shemchuk from taking the inside line to take second place - a position they would not relinquish for the remaining 18 laps to close the gap at the top of the SuperSport standings by another nine points.

The lack of rough waters prevented the #17 Spirit of Belgium from maintaining a genuine challenge for leadership of the race - eventually succumbing after encountering technical difficulties. Team Al and Al's #28 Blue Shaft were forced to retire seven laps into the race after taking on water while #22 Big Sergio were forced to pull out two laps later. Local wild card entry #82 Goldfish finished the race in a creditable fourth.

JURY DECISION: The protest from boat 43 was examined and found valid

Protest accepted

The protest was from boat 43 who on the start lap was forced to slow down as a police boat was crossing the start run. The crew from boat 43 explained their views on the start and so did the race officials in the start boat. After that, the Jury had a closed meeting.

The Jury found that boat 43 had to slow down at the start because of the police boat. Boat 43 was 6 seconds after the leading boat. Boat 43 crossed the finish line in 4th position. The Jury decided that boat 43 should be given the third position, together with boat 38. As the protest was accepted, the Jury decided that the complete protest fee will be given back to the team.

SUPERSPORT RESULTS ANNOUNCED

The stewards have released the confirmed set of results for the Sprint race in the SuperSport class, which took place today in Gothenburg at 1345 local time.

The trials and tribulations encountered in the aftermath of San Benedetto del Tronto ultimately paid dividends as they romped to victory 26 seconds ahead of surprise package #17 Spirit of Belgium and PowerPole sitters #38 Baia Attolini.

Team Principal and pilot Dan Cramphorn was understandably delighted with the result. "It's a great feeling after all the team's efforts this season. After Italy we were all a bit of low. It is very positive to be finishing the season in good form even though we cannot take the title.

"SuperSport is such a competitive class - but if we can continue this into 2010 then I am in no doubt that we can mount a Championship challenge."

Despite a solid start to the race, Baia Attolini evetually surrendered the lead to the British team following a nail-biting battle for supremacy on the start/finish line at the beginning of the third lap of the 11 lap race.

The Spirit of Belgium team of Micha Robyn, Patrick Huybreghts and Marc Sluszny produced one the most memorable performances of the season to register their best position in 2009.

An electric start from the Belgian outfit saw them overhaul Championship leaders #43 Seagull Chaudron on the start lap into third place before surpassing Baia Attolinio on the south-west end of the course on the ninth lap of the 44.75 nautical mile course.

Title rivals Baia Attolini and Seagull Chaudron were involved in a sensational race for the third and final podium spot - the former edging out the World Champions by half a boat length to close the gap at the top of the overall SuperSport standings.

#22 Big Sergio finished in an encouraging fifth place ahead of Scandinavian wild card entry #82 Goldfish and Team Al and Al rival #28 Blue Shaft. A broken drive train component prevented Shelley Jory and Audrien Ciantar's #44 Iko Casa hull from making the start line.

CLASSIFIED POWERPOLE RESULTS

The Powerboat P1 stewards have released the timings for the PowerPole qualifying session, which took place at 1600 local time this afternoon in Gothenburg, Sweden.

#38 Baia Attolini's Stefano Acanfora sounded a warning to the #43 Seagull Chaudron after recording their second-straight PowerPole after a devastating qualifying lap in Sweden.  As a result of the 03:10.02 lap secured the Italian team consisting of Acanfora, Renato Guidi and Roy Capasso will have first choice of lane for the tricky Gothenburg course.  And Acanfora believes the result heaps pressure on Angelo Tedeschi, Aaron Ciantar and Viktor Shemchuk in the Seagull hull.

"We have to finish in first place on Saturday and Sunday and let Angelo and his team know we are very serious about winning the Championship.

"We have the best starting position and it is very important because now it is ours to lose."

The current World Champions in the Seagull Chaudron registered the second fastest time - finishing just over a second behind the front-runners. British team #26 Team SW1 Capital complete the top three after a solid qualifying session which saw them record an average speed of 75.87mph across the 4.09 nautical mile course.

#17 MasForce and #22 Big Sergio were fourth and fifth fastest. #28 Blue Shaft were unable to complete its lap due to technical difficulties while engine failure put paid to the hopes of the
all-female #44 Iko Casa crew of Shelley Jory and Audrien Ciantar.

1745 - Podium Presentation for the Scandinavian Grand Prix of the Sea 2009

Powerboat P1 officially launched the countdown to August€™s Scandinavian Grand Prix of the Sea in Gothenburg yesterday.

Influential members of the marine industry and international media joined Powerboat P1 officials from the UK and Sweden to outline ambitious plans for the offshore powerboating extravanganza, ready to hit the maritime-obsessed city between August 7-9.

Powerboat P1 CEO Asif Rangoonwala can€™t wait to get the show on the road. €œScandanavia was a big target for the 2009 calendar. The sensational location of the Långedrag in the heart of the city as well as the maritime heritage, richly painted in the city€™s culture, makes the opportunity to bring the Powerboat P1 roadshow to Gothenburg too good to miss.

€œWe€™re positive that having such a spectacular event in the largest port in Scandanavia will not only raise the profile of the Powerboat P1 brand but give something back to Gothenburg and their continued support for the martime industry.

€œIt was an easy match after looking at the facts. One in seven households owns a boat in Sweden €“ that€™s 1.2 million boats.€

Powerboat P1€™s local promoter for Sweden, Mario Hytten, echoed Rangoonwala€™s sentiments, adding: €œI€™m really excited to bring a world championship event to Gothenburg. €œ

Acting upon the advice of environmental specialists, FB Engineering, to ensure the Scandinavian Grand Prix of the Sea meets Sweden€™s environmental protocol, Hytten is equally as excited about the prospect of kick-starting Powerboat P1€™s environmental drive.

€œWe are working on an initiative that on balance will leave a positive contribution to the Gothenburg Archipelago. €œ

Hytten confirmed an official announcement on Powerboat P1€™s environmental initiative will follow.

The thrilling waterfront drama will unfold in the pits at the Bananpiren before surging up the challenging Långedrag course. All part of Gothenburg€™s beautiful backdrop, the latest exclusive addition to the event includes the unprecedented use of the city€™s famous military landmark, Oscar II fort.

Untouched since the Second World War, the historic fortress that last opened to the public in 2004 will offer sensational vantage points of the racing that will be available to 10,000 lucky people.
